About Us

Brewing with Place, Purpose, and People

Sussex Ale Works was founded on the belief that great beer begins long before the first grain meets water. It begins with place. The land, The rhythms. The people who shape it.

Located in the heart of Sussex, New Brunswick, our brewery has always been guided by curiosity: about flavour, fermentation, and the invisible forces that turn simple ingredients into something meaningful. We brew with care, patience, and a deep respect for process, knowing that beer is never just made. It is grown, influenced by time, environment, and human intention.

As our brewery evolved, so did our understanding of craft. We began to see beer not only as a product, but as a cultural practice, one that has historically brought people together to mark seasons, share stories, and celebrate community. That understanding shapes how we welcome visitors today.

Rather than offering traditional tours or tastings, we create experiences that invite people to slow down, listen, and participate. Through storytelling, sensory exploration, and hands-on engagement, guests are welcomed into the living process of brewing and into the wider community that surrounds it.

Our approach is grounded in reciprocity. The stories shared, the beer created, and the connections formed through our experiences are not meant to be consumed and taken away. They are meant to be returned. Gifting beer and stories back to the community is central to our philosophy, reinforcing the idea that craft is at its best when it strengthens the place it comes from.

At Sussex Ale Works, sharing the craft means sharing responsibility - for land, for culture, and for one another. We invite visitors to experience beer not just as something you drink, but as something that connects you - to place, to people, and to the unseen work happening all around us.

If you’re curious about how beer can tell the story of a place, we invite you to step into the process with us.
